Davidoff adds to the success of the Winston Churchill line with the addition of the The Late Hour. All the cigars in the Winston Churchill line by Davidoff are named after one of the most influential, and iconic cigar smokers in history; Sir Winston Churchill. “The Late Hour” in this case is no different. The term Late Hour is in reference to the twilight hours of the night. While most of the world was sound asleep Winston Churchill was thinking of ways to inspire a nation with his words. During the night he often found his spark with a cigar as his inspiration.

What makes The Late Hour so unique is its Condega Viso tobacco aged in single malt Scotch Whisky Barrels. This adds a very unique sweetness and depth of flavor to the cigar, very similar in fact to the underlying sweetness that can be found in Scotch Whisky. The tobacco is aged generously for a time period of six months inside speyside oak whisky casks to assure the tobacco has ample time to absorb the essence of the previously casked whisky.
Smoking Experience
Size Smoked: Churchill
The Late Hour began with ample notes of oak, black pepper, and dark roast coffee. Also present was unique, and underlying sweetness; that I can assume is a result of the Scotch Whisky cask aging. The sweetness played off of the pepper, and coffee nicely; creating a very balanced profile. The draw was on the snug side, but this did not hinder the smoke output in the slightest. The smoke was thick, abundant, and had a great mouthfeel. At this point the cigar is smoking at a solid medium in terms of strength, and body. As the cigar progressed past the halfway point leather began to become a more predominant tasting note. I Also noticed the sweetness dialing back a bit, and the pepper increasing slightly. By the final third the cigars strength and body had also increased slightly to the medium-full range.
Overall The Davidoff Winston Churchill “The Late Hour” was a fantastic medium to full bodied. Featuring ample amounts of both complexity and balance, while also featuring an extremely unique sweetness as a result of the Scotch Whisky aged tobacco. This is definitely a cigar I look forward to smoking regularly going in the future. ~Brandon Ribbing
